This may seem like a crazy statement from “the candle lady”. But, in reality I am more than a candlemaker. I am a wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister, a cousin, a niece and a friend. I spend my days in activities that involve many people in my life. I do chores, run errands, spend time with my growing children, write on blogs, practice music for church and very often I make candles. But it is not all that I do.
I love it, though. Don’t ever think otherwise. I would not have kept at this for so many years if it wasn’t a passion for me.
The other thing I have come to love over the past several years is photography. Who would have thought that? It came about because of my blog, Hospitality Lane. I began to realize that just aiming the camera at whatever subject I wanted to share with my readers did not make a quality image. So, I got better at seeing the image on the screen and knowing if it would look good on your computer monitor. Before I knew it in my mind’s eye things would appear with frames around them….I would mentally crop images from the world around me. I was beginning to see with a photographer’s eye.
Still I was not cropping my actual photos nor was I touching them up. I guess I really thought that would be cheating. I mean, why should I have the option of fixing a photo when if I had the opportunity I “should” just take it right the first time. lol… What a nut I am.
I came to see the art involved in a great edit. We have all seen photos that have been edited too much. They end up being too bright or not natural colors. Perhaps they are cropped too tightly and the meaning of the photo is lost. So, I had to learn more, and continue to learn about producing amazing photos both straight from the camera and/or with a gentle touch with an editor.
I was concerned about having a product to offer during the HOT Summer months when we are not burning as many candles. So, I contacted a local printer about having him make up some photo note cards from a few of my photos. He was willing, and although I gulped at the price I decided to go for it. We are now on our third run of photo note cards.
I have been so pleased with the response. Nothing makes me smile wider than a repeat customer. Some have come back for more of my cards. Woot. They like my work. That blesses my heart. For some reason I feel more vulnerable with my photography than the candles. Something about sharing how I see the world through the camera lens is more personal.
I hope you’ll enjoy my photo note cards. There are more to come. The next round are going to be a bit different. The 4 by 6 photo will be mounted on the card itself. I may continue to have a line made by our local printer or I may transition to the new style completely. That, my friends, will be up to you. In the next day or so more than 200 of my images will be showing up from the photo lab. I will begin putting them together and listing them for your approval.
These are some of the designs to come:
And many, many more.
Can’t wait for them to get here so I can make them up.
In the meantime I have candle orders to fill……………………………………………..Yay!
